Our Philosophy and Program

Children learn and experience their world through sights, sounds, touch, and scent. Knowledge is not given to children; they learn through playful and meaningful interaction with people.

We strive to build a safe, fun, and educational environment for children in our family care. They will explore, question, and play independently and in groups. We value the interaction between children and their environment, seeing it as the basis for more complex learning and growth. We integrate learning and training into children’s daily experiences in fun and interactive ways.

Art/Activity Time: Hands-on activities are selected to develop skills such as artistic talent, spatial sense, mechanical awareness, and scientific understanding. Some examples of the activities we do are painting, crafts, handyman workshop, and gardening.

Group Time: Children gather to hear stories, see puppet shows, dance with music, and other activities that encourage creativity and social skills.

Self-directed Play: Children are provided with a bright open environment with a variety of activities. The room is arranged in zones focusing on reading, building, moving, exploring, and problem solving.

Outdoor Play: Children will play outside in a fully enclosed yard. The playground features a sensory castle, cabin, lawn toys, water table, digging area, learning garden, log tables, and toys carefully selected to encourage physical activity.

Nutrition

Healthy food is fundamental to having happy, healthy children. To ensure the highest standard of nutrition for your child, we have chosen to participate in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Our menus are designed to meet the nutritional guidelines of this program, and are verified by the City of Seattle Human Services Department which sponsors the program in the greater Seattle area. We serve organic milk, organic eggs, fresh fruit, lots of vegetables and lean meat, and reduced levels of sugar and salt.
